NEWS: PRCA looks at digital strategy within 2011 benchmarking survey

The Public Relations Consultants Associations (PRCA) today announced the results of its 2011 benchmarking survey.

According to the body, while the industry remains cautious due to current economic uncertainty, the financial performance during 2010 made for much happier reading than the results from 2009 – with average income and profits both rising.

In terms of digital strategy, of the 124 agency managing directors and chief executives that took part, 66% said that they had a formal business strategy in place. A further 28% said no, with a bizarre 6% deeming the question irrelevant.

The average proportion of training budget spent on digital fluency training was found to be 30%, with 48% of 84 HR directors saying that their business had a head of digital in place.

In terms of skillset for this role,  33% previously worked for a competitor, 25% came from a marketing background outside of PR and 20% were recruited from within via a promotion.

Members of the PRCA that completed each part of the survey will receive the information from that section free of charge. To discuss receiving the data, please contact Richard Ellis (richard.ellis@prca.org.uk or 020 7233 6026). Additionally, a summary of the results highlights (which will be made online today) will be available in the members area of the PRCA website from the beginning of May.
