Mobile Interactive Group (MIG) has purchased micro-payments firm Zaypay for an undisclosed sum in its ongoing strategy to woo more retailers and app developers.
Netherlands-based Zaypay (pictured) will continue to operate as a standalone units within MIG similar to its other branches, such as 4th Screen Advertising.
The purchase is a bid to capitalise on the growing m-commerce sector by improving MIG’s ability to provide in-app payment functions to retailers.
Barry Houlihan, MIG CEO, said the deal also reflected the fact that mobile app developers were now driving the m-commerce market.
“Our aim is to build stronger relationships specifically with the developer community, to provide them with a frictionless payment system,” he said.
The Zaypay purchase follows MIG’s acquisition of CRM provider Piri Limited and technology firm Golden Bytes International earlier this year (nma.co.uk 1 March 2011).
The UK m-commerce sector its tipped to hit £1.31bn this year accounting to 5% of all online spend, according to research from Datamonitor.
