Half of Facebook’s 30m UK members log in each day, according to the social network’s head of insight management Robert D’Onofrio.

The gender mix of Facebook’s UK audience is roughly 50:50 with the 18-24 age group the most proactive user base, revealed at D’Onofrio a London Facebook conference co-hosted with Omnicom Media Group.

Facebook users within the 35-44 age bracket are also very proactive with 50% returning each day. This demographic is also the most proactive when it comes to check-ins, said D’Onofrio.

Further up the age groups, Facebook users from the 45-and-over category generate “400m+ stories” each month.

“They’re just as engaged content wise as a 19-year-old college student,” added D’Onofrio.

He said that Facebook also regularly polls its user base with statistics from recent research indicating that over a quarter of respondents share photos of a purchase, such as a pair of shoes, via their profile.

Furthermore, two-thirds of respondents consider friends’ Facebook recommendations when buying groceries, while 40% of users would like to see promotions on their favourite department store’s pages.
