India's state-owned mobile network, BSNL is reported to be in yet more trouble over its seemingly never ending attempts to upgrade its network and may cancel the latest 15-million line GSM tender due to a poor response from bidders.
The contract was estimated to be worth around US$1-1.3 billion.
"The 15 million GSM tender floated by state-run BSNL is likely to be scrapped as only two or three private vendors have shown interest in the e-tender process," a Department of Telecom official told the Economic Times.
However, the company denied the report and said that the tender process is continuing.
The company has wasted years trying to upgrade its network with multiple tenders being dropped either due to political pressure or legal action over seemingly arbitrary decisions to drop bidders from competing.
