Smartphone ownership in Thailand is expected to double to 22% of the total mobile customer base next year, a survey by TNS Global has claimed.
James Fergusson, the managing director of TNS Global Technology, told the Bangkok Post that the mobile phone is set to become the primary device for consumers to spend time online.
"We expect the ownership of internet-enabled mobile devices to reach 22% in 2012, up from 11% this year and 5% last year," he said.
The research firm also expects that Android-based smartphones will dominate the market over the next 12-18 months, taking over from Nokia's Symbian operating system.
The use of social networks via mobile phones is expected to reach 25% next year, up from 9% this year and 2% in 2009.
