The app is expected to launch at some point this week with free access bundled into print subscriptions.

The app will be a “different kind of read” from the Guardian’s website by being a “bit more reflective” in its coverage, according to a promotional video featuring Guardian editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger.

The app will contain multimedia content which users can share via their social media feeds and will also link to the live blogs available via the Guardian website.

The price strategy differs from earlier apps. There was an initial one-off download fee for the first iteration of its iPhone app, which was later switched to subscription model   and Android app.
