Good Technology's latest report detailing smartphone and tablet activations in the enterprise indicated that the iPhone made up for 61 percent of smartphone activations in the enterprises it monitors during the third quarter.
Good, which makes software to manage smartphones and tablets in the enterprise, said Android activations made up 39 percent of smartphone activations in the third quarter, an increase from 33 percent in the second quarter. The iPhone accounted for 66 percent of activations in the second quarter.
John Herrema, senior vice president of Good Technology, told eWeek that it's quite possible the iPhone 4S could drive significantly more iPhone activations in the fourth quarter. He believes consumers may have been holding back on purchases of new phones in anticipation of the newer device, which went on sale Oct. 14.
He said his team found a 25 percent increase in activations compared to the third-quarter daily average for the iPhone 4 during the first weekend of the iPhone 4S's availability.
When it came to tablet activations in the fourth quarter, the iPad garnered more than 96 percent of total business activations, compared with 4 percent for Android.
