HTC Smartphone Sales Nearly Doubled in Q3 2011

Taiwan based smartphone manufacturer, HTC has reported that its third-quarter revenues were up by 79% at NT$135.8 billion (US$4.5 billion) as handset shipments nearly doubled to 13.2 million units.

The company said that Asia sales grew strongly; China reported strongest growth (3Q11 grew more than 9x from the same previous last year) among all regions.

Net profit was up by 68% to NT$18.68 billion (US$620 million). Gross margin and operating margin were 28% and 14.9% respectively, both within guidance range

The average selling price of a smartphone was up by 0.6% year-on-year to US$344, although it was down 1.4% in the previous quarter.

Looking ahead, the company said that it will significantly expand retail presence to ~2,000 outlets in China by end of the year.

Also, the new factory in Taoyuan is to be completed beginning of next year; new facility has a maximum
yearly capacity of 40mn units and will be phased in as demand increases.
