Netflix has struck an exclusive content deal with UK film and TV studio Lionsgate.
The deal will see the US streaming giant provide exclusive streaming access to Lionsgate films to UK and Ireland subscribers when it launches next year.
Netflix UK and Ireland subscribers will be able to watch Lionsgate UK titles including films The Expendables 2, along with catalogue titles including Resevoir Dogs, Blair Witch Project, and Good Night and Good Luck. New movie titles will be available to watch within one year of their theatrical release.
The content will be available to watch across all Netflix-enabled devices including PCs, smartphones, tablets and games consoles.
Netflix chief content officer Ted Serandos said, “Lionsgate is an important and successful supplier of television series and movies to us in all of our territories. We are proud to be the exclusive Pay TV home for Lionsgate theatrically-released films in the UK and Ireland.”
The deal marks Netflix’s second UK movie content deal, having signed exclusive rights to films from MGM. The deal will mean Netflix viewers will have access to new-release titles including Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit (pictured).
