Spotify has announced that it has signed up 2.5m paying subscribers, driven by its recent partnership with Facebook.
The music streaming service announced the news in a blog post.
“Fanfare! Drum roll! Yes, we’re excited to announce that we’ve now welcomed 2.5m paying subscribers to the service,” read anofficial blog post making the announcement. “So we’d like to say a big thank you to all our subscribers, new and old. Keep spreading the good news about Spotify.”
The news comes hot on the heels of a report from Enders Analysis that said the subscription model would make Spotify profitable this year and that it would hit 2.5m subscribers by the beginning of 2012.
The report, released last week, said the growth in Europe would stem from partnerships with mobile network operators and internet service providers.
The music service has gained traction through its tie-up with Facebook, which allows the social network’s users to listen to music with their friends and share their music through their profile, with 4m new members signing up within the first six weeks.
