CAT Telecom Delays 3G Launch - May Sell Concession Networks

Thailand's CAT Telecom has again delayed the launch of its 3G network following the flooding that has affected much of the country. The launch is now expected to take place next January.

The company is also considering an option to sell the networks operated by TrueMove, Digital Phone and DTAC to their respective companies. The three networks currently have networks under a build-operate-transfer agreement and will hand them over to CAT Telecom once their concession expires.

TrueMove's and DPC's concessions end in 2013, and DTAC ends in 2018. CAT is now reported to be considering letting them buy the networks instead of handing them over.

In September, TrueMove offered Bt10 billion (US$320 million) for its network but CAT rejected that as too low. DPC has yet to make an offer to CAT.
