Kindle rockets to No. 2 tablet

It's taken Amazon just two weeks to turn the Kindle Fire into the second most popular tablet computer behind Apple's iPad, according to research firm IHS. Amazon is expected to ship 3.9 million Kindle fire units during the last three months of 2011, the firm said.

With the $199 Kindle Fire one of the hottest electronics products during the holiday shopping season, Amazon's tablet is projected to have a 13.8 percent market share during the fourth quarter. It has already surged ahead of Samsung's Galaxy tablet and other rivals.

Booming sales of tablets are helping to drive sales of online video programming, and offer new distribution outlets for program suppliers.
