omcast, Time Warner Cable to begin selling Verizon Wireless products in 2012

Comcast and Time Warner Cable executives said they will begin reselling Verizon Wireless products to cable subscribers next year, even though the FCC and Federal Trade Commission still haven't approved a deal the cable MSOs struck last week to sell broadband wireless spectrum to Verizon.

Comcast will begin selling Verizon Wireless mobile voice and data products to customers in early 2012, Comcast Cable Communications president Neil Smit said at a UBS conference on Monday. Time Warner Cable will also begin selling Verizon Wireless products to its customers next year, CFO Irene Esteves said at the same conference.

The cable MSOs haven't said how they will price their wireless products, or how they will brand the mobile phone and data services that will be powered by Verizon.

The deal with Verizon could allow Comcast and Time Warner Cable to market quadruple plays of digital video, high-speed Internet and landline and mobile phone service to customers similar to Verizon's offering to FiOS customers. The quad play could help the cable MSOs compete against satellite rivals DirecTV and Dish Network, which don't offer wireless services to their customers.
