Thailand to Expand LTE Trials

Thailand's state-owned telco, TOT says that it will accept further offers from network infrastructure providers to test LTE services.

TOT's concession provider, AIS has already started LTE trials, with equipment provided by Ericsson. TOT will use 20 megahertz of its total 64MHz bandwidth of the spectrum in the trial.

TOT President, Anont Tubtiang told The Nation newspaper that the trial would start next month in Bangkok before expanding to other major provinces.

The regulator is authorising trials in both the 1800Mhz and 2.6Hgz spectrum bands on a renewable 90 day basis. Formal auctions of the spectrum for LTE services are not expected until 2013-14 at the earliest.
