Cisco sees increased demand for Videoscape platform

Cisco is seeing increased demand from cable operators and other service providers for its cloud-based Videoscape platform, CEO John Chambers said this week. The top cable set-top and hardware vendor saw revenue from its video sector jump 23 percent during its fiscal second quarter of 2012 compared with the same period last year.

CEO John Chambers said more of Cisco's service provider customers are transitioning from traditional cable set-tops to IP set-tops that rely on its Videoscape platform. He said that Cisco remains committed to building set-tops.

Cisco is seeing an increased spending from several service providers, with Chambers citing Time Warner Cable, Verizon and AT&T as a few examples. "We are becoming the sweet spot," Chambers said.

Cisco has also seen increased demand for its edge router products, including the ASR 5000 and the ASR 9000, Chambers added.

Cisco reported that it generated $11.5 billion in net sales for its fiscal second quarter of 2012, up 11 percent compared to the same period last year. Its net income jumped 43.5 percent to $2.2 billion.

Earlier this week, Cisco announced that Canadian telecom provider TELUS had deployed its Videoscape platform to extend its Optik TV service to mobile devices.
