Cable, satellite TV providers spotlighted in Consumerist's 'Worst Company' contest

Several cable and satellite TV companies are featured in Consumerist.com's "Worst Company in America" tournament, which follows a format similar to the brackets used for the March Madness basketball tournament.

Round one of the competition, which is based on votes by Web surfers, features Comcast versus Time Warner Cable; DirecTV versus Dish Network, Charter Communications versus CenturyLink, and AT&T versus Verizon.

Comcast was the only MSO to advance to the final four of the Consumerist competition last year. Last year, BP won Consumerist's "Golden Poo" award by beating Bank of America in the final.

While Consumerist's contest is not as significant as surveys from J.D. Power or Consumer Reports, its annual tournament generates negative stories each year for broadband providers. Consumerist said 250,000 consumers voted in last year's tournament.
