Lower Interest in Mobile Payments in Brazil Than Global Average

A quarter of Brazilians would use mobile payments in the future, although just 1% of mobile subscribers have done so far, a study by IBOPE Intelligence Research reported.

This is far lower than global averages, where a quarter of subscribers have already made a payment via a mobile phone, and 43% intend to do so in the future. However, 25% say they would never use this service.

In Brazil, only 1% makes payments via cell phone, 23% intend to accomplish in the future and 12% never intend to use this system.

Safety is the main barrier to smartphone users intention to use these services, according to 54% of respondents around the world. Fraud (39%) and privacy (29%) are also impediments. However, one in three people already use the mobile banking services.

Methodology

The study surveyed 40,557 people in 44 countries. In Brazil, there were 2,002 interviews nationwide, with men and women 16 years or more, classes A, B, C, D and E.
