DirecTV's expansion into hotels may be impacting top hotel entertainment and pay-per-view programming provider LodgeNet, which reported $94.7 million in first-quarter revenue, down $13 million compared to this time last year.
LodgeNet saw its net loss widen to $3.5 million (14 cents per share), compared to a net loss of $2.3 million (9 cents per share) during the first quarter of 2011. The company has been attempting to drive new business by rolling out new interactive TV and mobile applications.
Last week, DirecTV announced that it was beginning to deploy high-definition DVRs in hotel properties that it has distribution deals with. Its customers include some Hilton properties.
