Virgin adds 242,000 TiVo subscribers in Q1

Virgin Media said it added 242,000 TiVo subscribers during the first quarter, expanding the number of homes that use TiVo DVRs and program guides to 677,100.

The top cable operator in the United Kingdom was one of the first multichannel providers to market TiVo DVRs to subscribers. Its success bodes well for TiVo's distribution strategy in the U.S.

Some cable MSOs such as RCN and Grande Communications are beginning to market TiVo DVRs to cable subscribers as a primary set-top. TiVo also has deals with Comcast, Charter Communications and other providers that allow subscribers to access cable video-on-demand programming through TiVo DVRs purchased at retail outlets.
