Cable One picked up 916 basic video subscribers during the first quarter of 2012, ending the period with 622,339 basic subscribers. But the company still counts roughly 25,000 fewer subscribers than it did at the end of the first quarter of 2011, according to an earnings report from parent The Washington Post Co.
Like other cable MSOs, Phoenix, Ariz.-based Cable One continues to grow high-speed Internet and voice customers. It ended the first quarter with 463,443 cable-modem customers, up 23,228 compared to this time last year. It has grown its telephone customer base by 19,450, ending the first quarter with 186,009 voice subscribers.
Cable One generated $190.2 million in revenue for The Washington Post Co, which was flat compared to last year. Operating income from the cable unit decreased by 13 percent, to $32.8 million, which the company attributed to programming and sales costs.
The Washington Post Co. reported net income of $31 million, or $4.07 per share, which was an increase compared to net income of $15.2 million, or $1.87 per share, in Q1 2011.
