Rural telco Frontier Communications said it continues to lose FiOS TV subscribers, but that it is growing its video base by reselling satellite TV services from DirecTV and Dish Network.
The company reported Monday that it picked up 4,400 video subscribers during the first quarter. That included net additions of 9,200 satellite TV subscribers and a net loss of 4,800 FiOS TV customers. It counted 561,900 video customers at the end of March.
Frontier, which is run by former Wink Communications CEO Maggie Wilderotter, said it added 11,700 broadband subscribers during the first quarter. It grew its total high-speed Internet base to 1.776 million subscribers.
Frontier generated $1.2 billion in revenue during the first quarter, compared to $1.283 million that it reported this time last year. It reported $26.8 million (3 cents per share) in net income.
