There were 1,030.05 million subscribers of mobile communication services in China as of the end of April 2012, growing by 1.10% on month and by 14.40% on year, and 158.97 million (15.43%) of them were 3G users, according to statistics published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The number of subscribers at the end of April accounted for 73.6% of the country's population (user density).
At the end of April 2011 there were 283.76 million subscribers of fixed telecommunication networks in China, translating into a user density of 21.3%.
In April 2012, mobile phone subscribers in China sent 70.78 billion short messages, averaging 2.30 short messages per phone number a day.
