China Mobile Customer Accidentally Tops Up PrePay Account with $107,000

A China Mobile customer who transferred a huge amount of money from her bank to her mobile phone account is to get a refund from the mobile network - after it initially said that it couldn't return the money.

The customer, identified only as Yue used an ATM to transfer the funds from her bank account to her prepay mobile account. However, she mistakenly typed in her numeric password when the screen asked for the amount.

She ended up sending more than 680,000 yuan (US$107,000) to China Mobile from the company bank account she was using.

She only noticed when the bank called to query the unusual transaction, and initially China Mobile refused to refund the money.

Following social media pressure, China Mobile's Guangxi branch backed down and said it would refund the money, and reminded customers to be more careful when transferring money from bank accounts.
