China Mobile, a TD-SCDMA mobile telecom carrier in China, is undertaking trials of 100Gbps backbone networks in a bid to meet growing demand for IPTV, HDTV, VoD and P2P services.
China Mobile has invited main suppliers of telecom equipment, including Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks and China-based ZTE, Huawei Technologies and FiberHome Technologies, to participate in the trial operation, according to industry sources.
The next two years will be a key period for development of 100Gbps backbone networks. China Mobile aims to provide mobile Internet at 10Mbps to individual subscribers, 100Mbps to home subscribers and 1,000Mbps to enterprise subscribers, the sources indicated.
