Q2 2012 games hardware: TV consoles wane as next generation looms

It is now clear that the current console cycle is drawing to a close as the PS3 and Xbox 360, which had been producing respectable year-on-year sales trends, are in decline. Q2 has been a drab quarter for high-profile full-price releases, a stereotypical summer lull compounding the generational downturn. Overall hardware volumes are hit particularly hard in USA, while Nintendo's 3DS doubles its year-on-year worldwide sell-through to find its greatest growth in PAL and Japan.
