UK Mobile Payments Venture Gets New Brandname

The UK mobile payments joint venture between O2, Vodafone and EE (T-Mobile/Orange) has revealed that it is to be branded as "Weve".

The joint venture between the mobile networks -- excluding Huchison 3G UK -- was originally announced last June, but was only approved by the European Commission in September. They has originally planned a launch by the end of last year.

The new company is looking to hire around 150 staff now that it is about to launch services and will market itself to mobile payments vendors as a single point of access to the three dominant mobile networks.

The new brandname was created by strategic design agency Someone.
